THREE CASTS OF HONEY BEES
WORKER BEE( FEMALE BEE)
Most of the work in the hive is done by worker bees. worker bees are responsible for keeping
the hive clean, feeding, developing bees, building the honeycomb, and taking care of the queen.
Honey bees are insects and have five characteristics that are common to most insects.
They have a hard outer shell called an exoskeleton.
They have three main body parts: head, thorax, abdomen.
They have a pair of antennae that are attached to their head.
They have three pairs of legs used for walking.
They have two pairs of wings.
DRONE ( MALE BEE)
Drones are larger than worker bees, and they are only necessary for the purpose of breeding with the queen. they must be fed by the worker bees, and they have no stingers to defend the colony. because only a few drones are needed for reproduction,
Bees are very important to everyone. Without them, the development of life on earth, as we know it now, would have been much different and the conditions for human development may not have existed. Bees are responsible for pollinating one third of our fruits and vegetables.
THE HONEY BEE ( APIS MELIFERA)
Each colony can be ruled by only one queen at a time. queens control their workers by releasing pheromones known as the queen’s scent. after the new queen masters the hive, she attends a mating flight at a drone congregation site, where thousands of males wait. queens can lay up to 2000 eggs or more a day.
